NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — An annual French film festival put on by Salve Regina University is returning to Newport with the screening of several new comedies and dramas.
The eighth annual French Film Festival will feature six new films from France, Quebec and Belgium. They will be screened from March 17 to 28.
The festival kicks off at the Jane Pickens Theater in Newport with a reception and a showing of ‘‘Monsieur Lazhar.’’ The film nominated for an Oscar for best foreign language film tells the story of a Montreal middle school class shaken by the death of their teacher.
The rest of the films are being shown on the Salve Regina campus. All of them have English subtitles.
The festival drew more than 2,000 spectators last year.
