Chafee nominates former lawmaker for RIPTA board

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Gov. Lincoln Chafee has nominated one new member to the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority board and moved to reappoint another.

Peter Ginaitt (jih-NYTE') would be serving his first term on the board. The former Rhode Island House member has served as corporate director of emergency preparedness at Lifespan since 2007. Before that he worked as director of emergency preparedness for Rhode Island Hospital and as a rescue captain, firefighter and EMT for the Warwick Fire Department.

He would replace Thomas Deller.

Chafee also nominated Jerome Williams for reappointment. He is senior vice president for finance and administration at Roger Williams University and previously served as director of both the state Department of Administration and the Department of Transportation.
