PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Three Rhode Islanders, including one nominated for a 2014 Academy Award, have been named recipients of $25,000 artist fellowships by the Rhode Island Foundation.
The foundation announced Friday that Daniel Sousa, Anthony Giannini and Leslie Hirst received the awards.
Sousa’s film ‘‘Feral’’ was nominated for Best Animated Short Film. He will use the fellowship to devote more time to personal film work, rent studio space and equipment, and hire animation assistants.
Giannini will work on building two individual bodies of works for solo exhibitions in Puerto Rico.
Hirst will use the fellowship for travel and activities related to an artist’s residency in Italy and to pursue an interactive public art project.
The MacColl Johnson Fellowship Fund provides up to three fellowships each year, rotating among composers, writers and visual artists.
