PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Brown University is preparing to host a global conference on social entrepreneurship in higher education.
The Ashoka U Exchange conference is scheduled to be held on campus from Thursday through Saturday. Organizers say 650 faculty, staff, administrators and students from 150 colleges and universities around the world are expected to attend.
Ashoka U is a program of Ashoka, a global network of social entrepreneurs.
The opening panel will include Providence Mayor Angel Taveras; the director of the White House Office of Social Innovation and Civic Participation; and Brown President Christina Paxson.
Conference participants will visit three sites in Providence to learn about innovation, including the Capital Good Fund, the TRI-Lab at Brown, and HOPE, or Housing Opportunities for People Everywhere, a community program of the Swearer Center for Public Service.
