PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Brown University says it will try to cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 42 percent below 2007 levels.
The Ivy League school says it wants to do so by 2020.
Brown says it also will require that all newly constructed buildings limit emissions to 25 percent to 50 percent below what's required by state code.
It would cut emissions in buildings it's buying by 15 percent.
Brown President Ruth Simmons says the university is committed to creating a more sustainable environment and leading by example.
The school says it will make the cuts through measures like switching to natural gas and more efficient lighting and using renewable energy sources.![]()
