WARWICK, R.I.—Police are investigating whether excessive speed was a factor in a single car accident that killed two young women from Warwick.

Twenty-two-year-old Kelly Ann Richer and 18-year-old Heather Drew died Thursday when the car they were driving in spun around and hit a tree broadside.

Police said they were not wearing seat belts. They're also investigating whether either of the women were drinking.

The crash happened just a mile from Drew's home.

Friends remembered the pair as vivacious and fun-loving women who loved the outdoors.

Richer worked at nearby stables. Drew, who'd dropped out of high school, was thinking of returning.
