PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Rhode Islanders are gearing up for what could be a record-breaking presidential primary.
The Democratic race between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton is close, and Rhode Island is one of four states going to the polls on Tuesday in what could be a critical day of voting.
Voters in the Ocean State will choose just 21 delegates on Tuesday, much fewer than the hundreds that will be decided in Ohio and Texas.
But the candidates haven't taken any vote for granted. Obama made his first campaign stop here Saturday, and Clinton came on Feb. 24. Both their spouses came in the last two weeks.
The Secretary of State's office says it's expecting twice as many people to go to the polls this year as went in the 2000 primary.![]()
