CHARLESTOWN, R.I.—Rescuers from the Mystic Aquarium have released a harp seal that they nursed back to health.

The year-old seal was freed Thursday morning off Blue Shutters Beach. Aquarium officials say the seal passed through heavy surf and swam off into the ocean.

He was discovered off the coast of Little Compton in late February. Aquarium officials say the seal was dehydrated, thin and was not moving much.

Picked up by rescuers, the seal was restored to health at the Connecticut aquarium.
