NARRAGANSETT, R.I.—A residential and educational program for teenagers has received $268,000 in federal funding.

Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse announced the money for the Ocean Tides facility in Narragansett.

The funding will help the program build a new library and improve its science, computer, and multimedia labs and arts and ceramics room.

Ocean Tides is an alternative to the Rhode Island Training School and caters to teenage boys who the state says require supervision and residential placement.

Whitehouse said in a statement Friday that the Ocean Tides residents are at a "crossroads" in their lives, but that the funding will help the program do more for the teens.

Ocean Tides offers a work-study program, counseling and classes for boys in 8th through 12th grade.
