State lawmakers delay vote on expanded slot parlor hours
PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Rhode Island lawmakers have once again delayed a vote on expanding gambling hours at the state's two slot parlors.
The bills would allow Newport Grand and Twin River in Lincoln to operate around-the-clock on weekends and holidays. Closing time would be set at 3 a.m. on weekdays.
Democratic lawmakers have fought all week over whether the host communities should get a larger slice of the gambling proceeds in return for putting up with longer gambling hours.
Senate President Joseph Montalbano wants more compensation for Lincoln, which he represents. House Speaker William Murphy says he's working on a compromise that would provide extra money to both Lincoln and Newport.
No one has reached a final agreement.![]()
