Streetworker for anti-violence group beaten, stabbed
PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Police say a former gang member who was working to keep Providence streets safer was among four people beaten and stabbed during a weekend disturbance outside a downtown nightclub.
Sareth "Tony" Kim became a streetworker for the Institute for the Study and Practice of Nonviolence after serving time in prison.
The 32-year-old Kim is being treated for head injuries and a stab wound to the shoulder after being attacked early Sunday with a baseball bat and knife. Investigators say he may have been trying to diffuse a confrontation between feuding gangs outside the nightclub, Level 2, when he was attacked.
Police Maj. Stephen Cambpell said four men from Fall River were taken into custody on disorderly conduct charges and could face additional counts of felony assault.
