SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I.—A woman facing charges for a car crash that seriously injured a teenager last year has failed a drug test.

Heidi Harrall was ordered by a Superior Court judge Monday to surrender her license after her urine tested positive for amphetamines.

Authorities say Harrall was driving drunk last June when her car collided with Sylvia Bogusz, then 17, who was waiting on the side of the road for help in changing a flat tire.

Bogusz spent months in the hospital, recovering from a head injury and broken bones.

Harrall was indicted earlier this year on charges of driving under the influence and driving to endanger. She has pleaded not guilty and is free on $10,000 cash bail.

Harrall's attorney says his client had a prescription for the amphetamines, but would not elaborate.
