WEST WARWICK, R.I.—A West Warwick man who admitted to ethics violations will keep his position as town representative on the Kent County Water Authority.

Robert Boyer, a former member of the town's economic development commission, was sentenced to a year of home confinement last month after pleading no contest to three misdemeanor ethics violations.

As part of his plea agreement, he admitted giving money to the West Warwick town building official in hopes of receiving preferential treatment.

Boyer was initially indicted on eight felony counts of bribing a public official.

But the attorney general's office dropped five of the charges after deciding it didn't have evidence of an actual bribe. The remaining charges were amended to misdemeanors.
