Yo-Yo Ma, Laurie Anderson get honorary degrees at RISD
PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Cellist Yo-Yo Ma and performance artist Laurie Anderson are among those who received honorary degrees at the 2008 commencement of the Rhode Island School of Design.
Anderson delivered the commencement speech during the Saturday morning ceremony that was alongside the Providence River on the East Side of Providence, overlooking downtown.
Anderson, who's collaborated with musicians including her partner, Lou Reed, and Brian Eno, is also known for her multimedia installations and short films.

Also honored Saturday was longtime RISD (RIZ'-dee) President Roger Mandle, who's leaving the school. His successor, John Maeda, takes over Sunday.
