Langevin supports more handicapped-friendly House

PROVIDENCE, R.I. --Rep. Jim Langevin is praising a decision by House leaders to make their chambers more accessible to the handicapped and disabled.

House leaders announced Monday that they plan to install wheelchair lifts so that people with disabilities will have access to the speaker's podium.

Langevin says that while he may be the first quadriplegic in Congress, he won't be the last. He says the renovations, which are expected to be completed next year, will benefit many.

Langevin has been confined to a wheelchair since an accidental shooting that occurred when he was a teenager.
