PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Former Secretary of State Colin Powell is scheduled to speak in Providence about leadership and patriotism.

Powell will give the keynote address Tuesday evening at the 2008 U.S. Scholar-Athlete Games. The speech will take place at the Providence Performing Arts Center.

The games draw hundreds of high school students from around the country and the world to Rhode Island. It's run by the Institute for International Sport in South Kingstown.

Also Tuesday, the Institute for International Sport is holding a peace walk through downtown Providence. A spokesman for the institute says Powell is not scheduled to participate in the walk.

As secretary of state under President Bush, Powell made the case for the Iraq war in a February 2003 presentation to the United Nations Security Council.
