SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I.—Health officials say a fox that attacked a university chaplain in her South Kingstown backyard has tested positive for rabies.

The Rev. Jennifer Phillips of St. Augustine's Episcopal Church at the University of Rhode Island was chased and bitten by the fox Wednesday morning.

An officer with the Department of Environmental Management was able to kill the fox, and it was tested for rabies by the state Department of Health.

The results came back positive on Thursday.

A health department spokeswoman says Phillips will get five shots over the next few weeks to prevent her from developing rabies.
