MIDDLETOWN, R.I.—Police have identified a 28-year-old Newport man as the survivor of a plane crash in Middletown that killed two.

Two unidentified men pulled Keith Ulich from the burning wreckage of the single engine plane, which crashed just after takeoff at Newport State Airport on Thursday evening.

Ulich was listed in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital on Friday.

Officials said dental records may be needed to positively identify the two people killed because of the condition of the bodies.

Still, family members of the victims came to view the wreckage on Friday. The Providence Journal reports they laid a small bouquet of red flowers near the scene, and declined requests for comment.

James Warcup, chief aeronautics inspector with the Rhode Island Airport Corporation, said the plane suffered a power failure immediately after takeoff.

Federal officials are investigating.
