KABUL, Afghanistan—Sen. Jack Reed was accompanying Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama on his first campaign tour of combat zones.
Obama spent time visiting with U.S. forces in Kuwait Saturday and then flew to Afghanistan -- the scene of a war he says deserves more attention and more troops.
Obama, Reed and Sen. Chuck Hagel, a Nebraska Republican, made a brief stop in Jalalabad airfield, in Nangarhar province, to visit with soldiers stationed there.
The delegation also met with top military leaders and troops at Bagram Air Base, the main U.S. military base in the country.
Reed, a West Point graduate and former Army Ranger and paratrooper, has been mentioned as a possible Obama running mate, but last week said he wasn't interested.![]()
