PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Rhode Island Attorney General Patrick Lynch and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse will be visiting a Providence home where dangerous lead paint is being removed.

They're holding a news conference Monday to discuss a DuPont-funded initiative to protect homes from lead paint and educate the public on the dangers of the substance.

As many as 600 low-income housing units are being rid of toxic lead paint as part of the program, which is called the Healthy Kids Collaborative.

Rhode Island sued DuPont and several other former lead paint manufacturers. Lynch agreed to dismiss DuPont from the suit in exchange for the company agreeing to pay millions of dollars.

The state won a landmark verdict in 2006 against three other defendants, but it was reversed last year by the state Supreme Court.
