PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Rhode Island Attorney General Patrick Lynch is stepping in to fight
Lynch said Thursday that given the economy and the associated strains on the state's residents, he feels it's appropriate the examine the necessity of the proposed rate hike, which he called "drastic."
He says Narragansett Electric, owned by National Grid, remains profitable.
Lynch said if approved by the state's Public Utilities Commission, the rate hike would result in a standard customer paying nearly $9 more per month.
