PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Two Rhode Island health care systems seeking to merge have been given three more months to submit information missing from their initial application.
Attorney General Patrick Lynch and Health Director David Gifford announced Monday that Care New England Health System and Lifespan Corp. must complete their initial application by March 31. They previously had until last Friday to supply required information.
If approved, the merger would create the state's largest health care and hospital system.
The application was first submitted in late September, but state officials said it was incomplete and directed the two health care systems to submit missing information.
Federal regulators have cleared the proposed merger after the Federal Trade Commission determined that the consolidation does not violate federal antitrust standards.![]()
