PROVIDENCE, R.I.—A 17-year-old boy was shot in the arm after leading Providence police on a foot chase.

Police say they were chasing two armed teenagers at about 6 p.m. on Saturday, when the pair split up.

Officers say they chased 17-year-old Jaylon Baker down Wesleyan Street until he appeared to pull a gun, and one of the officers opened fire.

Police say the bullet went through Baker's arm, and he is expected to make a full recovery. Baker's father tells WPRI-TV that his son had just been released from a youth detention program.

Several witnesses say Baker didn't have a gun, but police say one was recovered at the scene.

Police Chief Dean Esserman says a full use of force review is being conducted.
