PROVIDENCE, R.I.—A federal judge has given an anti-gay marriage group until next week to refile a lawsuit that seeks the right to run ads in the governor's race without complying with campaign finance laws.
U.S. District Judge Mary Lisi said that the lawsuit from the National Organization for Marriage is disorganized, vague and poorly constructed. The judge said the relevant allegations were "buried" in the lawsuit.
Lisi dismissed the lawsuit, but said the group has the option to refile it by Wednesday.
The organization argued that it should be free to run ads in the governor's race without having to report its expenditures or comply with other spending limits required of political action committees.![]()
