NEWPORT, R.I.—A Newport mansion and a 23-acre estate that have been in the same family for more than a century have been sold for $5 million.

Kate Leonard of broker Delman Real Estate tells The Providence Journal that Berry Hill was sold last week by the The Berry Hill Nominee Trust to Wild Moor LLC.

Berry Hill has been owned by the Howe family since its completion in 1887. Leonard says the property was on the market for over a year because the owners wanted to make sure the buyer could take care of it properly.

The grounds include 12 acres of cultivated gardens designed under the guidance of Frederick Law Olmsted, a wildflower meadow and groves of beech and tupelo trees.

The estate includes 12 outbuildings, including a tea house and gardener's cottage.
