JOHNSTON, R.I.—A Johnston postal worker has been charged with stealing cash from cards he was supposed to be delivering.

Richard Fiske of Warwick was arraigned this week on a charge of larceny under $500.

Johnston police are not sure how much cash went missing, but suspect it's more than has been reported.

Police tell The Providence Journal they launched an investigation after several people complained about not getting their mail.

The post office narrowed the missing mail to one route. Authorities say Fiske was seen taking money out of cards, then throwing away the cards and envelopes. If there was no money inside, Fiske allegedly resealed and delivered them.

He was caught in a sting by postal investigators who put $120 in a card.

He has been suspended.
