PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Providence is set to host the first annual Rhode Island Seafood Festival this weekend.
The festival is scheduled to be held Saturday at India Point Park. Visitors to the free event will be able to taste a variety of seafood from vendors in the state and elsewhere in southern New England. Beer and wine from local distributors will be available, and local bands will perform live music.
Organizers say a percentage of the proceeds from food sales will go to American Red Cross Hurricane Irene relief and the Rhode Island Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation. The foundation works to protect oceans and beaches.
The rain date for the festival is Sunday.![]()
