PROVIDENCE, R.I.—A state-financed project to upgrade a Rhode Island YMCA has been formally launched in Westerly.
The $5.45 million renovation will triple the size of the YMCA's fitness center and expand facilities for children and teens.
State and local officials held a ground breaking for the project on Friday. The work is scheduled to be completed in about a year.
The Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation approved financing for the work last year.
