PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Members of Occupy Providence will not press charges against a Johnson & Wales University student who ran through a Providence park and yelled obscenities, damaged several tents and stole food.
The Providence Journal reports ( http://bit.ly/uGz8Jy) that Occupy member Jared Paul says members of the protest group voted to not seek charges against the unidentified student. Instead, they invited him to return for organizational and nonviolence training sessions, which he has so far not attended.
Paul said the student nearly cried, apologized and said he was drunk when he ran through Burnside Park on Saturday and that he didn't understand what the protests are about.
Paul says the student agreed to reimburse the owners of two tents that were damaged during his spree.
