NEWPORT, R.I.—Salve Regina University officials are working with authorities to determine the identity of a man who killed a rabbit with a hockey stick and used its body like a puck.
Investigators say two students reported the allegations about a third student, saying they saw him kill the wild cottontail outside his off-campus apartment on Nov. 4.
WJAR-TV reports ( http://bit.ly/sqjXte) its body was later found wrapped in a garbage bag in the trash.
The incident remained under investigation Sunday.
An official with the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals say they are working with Newport police, and Salve Regina officials denounced the incident as "completely unacceptable" and contrary to the university's values.
Officials believe they know the suspect's identity and are urging him to turn himself in.
