PROVIDENCE, R.I.—The city of Providence is accepting nominations for its annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

City officials say nomination letters will be accepted until January 6.

The city says it is seeking to honor local residents who have made a substantial contribution to acceptance, social justice, civil rights and equality in Providence or as a resident of the community.

Officials say nominees must be a resident of Providence or have accomplished a significant amount of community work in the city.

Nomination letters should be less than two pages long, and specify how the individual being nominated exemplifies King's commitment to acceptance, social justice, civil rights and equality. The letters should be addressed to the Providence Human Relations Commission located at City Hall.
