Verizon FiOS to offer WJAR-TV in 2012
PROVIDENCE, R.I.—WJAR-TV has reached an agreement with Verizon Communications Inc. to keep the Rhode Island NBC affiliate available to customers of the FiOS fiber-optic TV and broadband service.
The deal was announced on Friday. The terms of the agreement were not released.
The new contract means WJAR-TV and its Me-TV will continue to be available on the FiOS system after 11:59 p.m. on Saturday. The NBC affiliate had been advising viewers it may not be on FiOS beginning Jan. 1, 2012.
WJAR-TV General Manager Vic Vetters says consumers convinced New York-based Verizon that they value the broadcasting arrangement.
Me-TV launched nationally in December 2010 and began broadcasting in the Providence area in September. It offers classic television shows and locally-produced WJAR-TV programs.![]()
