RI lawmaker at Florida rehab center for treatment
SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I.—A lawyer for state Rep. Robert Watson has told court officials that his client is being treated for substance abuse in Florida after his arrest on a marijuana possession charge last month.
The Providence Journal reports ( http://bit.ly/y1ALUk) that a District Court judge on Thursday sealed details of the exact location where the former House minority leader is being treated, at the request of Watson's lawyer.
The East Greenwich Republican was arrested Jan. 21 in South Kingstown when police responded to a reported erratic driver. Town police recently announced they won't be filing a DUI charge in the case, despite officers saying Watson appeared intoxicated. He's scheduled to be arraigned March 1.
Watson was also arrested in Connecticut last year and pleaded not guilty to marijuana possession and DUI charges.
