PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Rhode Island's acting auditor general says the Institute for International Sport cannot account for how it spent all of a $575,000 state grant for a building on the University of Rhode Island campus.

The Providence Journal ( http://bit.ly/wkOycw) reported Wednesday that Auditor General Dennis Hoyle was provided with documentation for expenses totaling $163,000 but couldn't identify how the rest of the funds were spent.

The legislative grant was for constructing the International Leadership Building, which remains empty with no plumbing, electricity or heat five years after the grant was awarded.

House Speaker Gordon Fox called for an audit of the grant money last year after hearing concerns about the unfinished building.

The Institute for International Sport's founder, Daniel Doyle Jr., has said his organization has done nothing improper and cited bookkeeping errors.
