RI Gov. to attend Whitehouse fundraiser
PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee (CHAY'-fee) plans to attend a fundraiser for U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, the Democrat who ousted Chafee from the U.S. Senate in 2006.
Chafee's spokeswoman says Chafee will attend Thursday's event in Providence "as a guest of the Senator."
The spokeswoman wouldn't say whether Chafee would contribute to Whitehouse's re-election campaign.
Chafee left the Republican Party to become an independent following his loss to Whitehouse. He endorsed Barack Obama for president in 2008 and is now serving as a co-chairman of Obama's re-election campaign.
Vice President Joe Biden is expected to attend the fundraiser at the Providence Biltmore hotel.
Whitehouse, of Newport, faces a challenge from Republican Barry Hinckley in this fall's election.![]()
