RI State Police car flips on way to drug arrest
PROVIDENCE, R.I.—A Rhode Island State Trooper has been hospitalized after his cruiser rolled over on Interstate 95.
State police superintendent Col. Steven O'Donnell says Trooper Jonathan Elliott's vehicle overturned while he was responding to a fellow officer engaged in a foot chase with a drug trafficking suspect.
The accident occurred at approximately 9:45 a.m. Thursday in West Greenwich.
The State Police says Elliott was taken to Rhode Island Hospital and is in stable but serious condition.
Following the foot chase, police arrested 42-year-old Dwight David of Boston on charges including possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and resisting arrest.
Authorities say they seized 50 pounds of marijuana from the suspect.
