PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Doctors say a 10-year-old Providence boy will likely lose an eye after a crossbow dart struck him by accident at his home.

Police say some men were shooting darts from the crossbow into a dartboard on Ford Street early Sunday morning and tried to show Saila Sao how to use it. One of the men told police the crossbow jammed just before the dart shot into Sao's eye.

The boy pulled out the dart himself before rescuers arrived. He's listed in good condition at Hasbro Children's Hospital.

One of the men, 27-year-old Kosal Ek, was charged with firing a weapon in a compact area.

Police say the dart penetrated the boy's brain.
