PROVIDENCE, R.I.—The Rhode Island Department of Corrections is planning to rededicate a facility in Cranston honoring a former employee who worked with female inmates.

Officials said Friday that the Gloria DiSandro McDonald Women's Facility will be rededicated next week. Gov. Lincoln Chafee (CHAY'-fee) is expected to attend the event on Tuesday morning.

The women housed in the building are either awaiting trial or classified as medium security inmates. Officials say the facility has nearly 18,000 admissions every year.

The late Gloria McDonald, who lived in Jamestown, was deputy warden of women's facilities from 1961 to 1991.
