1 RI Mega Million player wins $250,000 prize
PROVIDENCE, R.I.—One Mega Million ticket buyer in Rhode Island is quite a bit richer even though no one in the state won the record-breaking jackpot.
Mega Million lottery officials said Saturday that player a Rhode Island player won a $250,000 payout by matching the drawing's five numbers but missing the Mega Ball number. That means the ticket buyer was just one number from winning a share of the $640 million grand prize.
Rhode Island Lottery officials could not be immediately reached on Saturday to name the city in which the winning ticket was sold.
Three grand-prize winning tickets were sold in Illinois, Kansas and Maryland, giving their owners a share of the largest lottery jackpot in history.
