Promised Occupy Portsmouth movement disappears
PORTSMOUTH, R.I.—The Occupy Portsmouth movement that activists announced last month seems to have disappeared.
The Newport Daily News reports ( http://bit.ly/FdIyx) that the group's website and Facebook page no longer exist. The group had announced three weeks ago that it would be holding a "general assembly" at Patriot Park on April 3, but the only people who showed up Tuesday were police officers, news reporters and a few curious spectators.
A group calling itself "Occupy Portsmouth" sprang up last month with the announcement of the park meeting. Organizers also said they would be setting up shop at the park as part of the national Occupy movement, which protests corporate excesses and economic inequality.
Organizers had said they were part of an expansion of the Occupy movement into smaller towns nationwide.
