Man gets 8 years in prison for fatal Warwick crash
PROVIDENCE, R.I.—A Scituate man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for a high-speed, drunken-driving crash in Warwick that killed a teenage passenger in his car.
Twenty-year-old Antonio Caprio was sentenced Monday in Providence Superior Court after pleading no contest to DUI death resulting and other crimes.
State prosecutors say Caprio was driving more than 100 mph on Interstate 95 northbound when his car bumped another vehicle and rolled over multiple times in August 2010. Caprio and three passengers in his car were returning to Providence from Scarborough Beach in Narragansett.
Caprio and 17-year-old Mariely Veras weren't wearing seat belts and were thrown from the car. Veras died. The two other passengers in Caprio's car were seriously injured, and the people in the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.
