Brown gives $50,000 to 4 Providence schools

PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Brown University has announced that it's giving four public schools in Providence grants totaling more than $50,000.

The grants are the latest awarded by the Fund for the Education of the Children of Providence. Brown has committed to raise $10 million for the fund.

The Asa Messer Elementary School, Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts, Charles Fortes Elementary School and the Urban Collective Accelerated Program are receiving grants.

The Asa Messer Elementary School is receiving $20,000 to provide tutors to more students. The Charles Fortes Elementary School is receiving $1,000 to improve its health curriculum.

The Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts is receiving $11,250 to pay for film equipment, musical instruments, software, dance supplies and theater materials. The Urban Collective Accelerated Program is getting $18,000 to purchase 16 iMac computers.
