PORTSMOUTH, R.I.—A 5-year old Portsmouth girl who suffered a broken wrist when she was bitten by her family's pit bull, is asking authorities to let the dog come home.
Grace Marten's mother, Vanessa, tells WLNE-TV the dog isn't vicious and the whole thing was a "big accident."
Her mother says Grace and her dog "Chopper" were playing tug-of-war in the yard with an old blanket Tuesday when the dog latched onto the girl's arm.
She says the dog became scared and confused after she and her daughter began screaming.
Vanessa says Grace is afraid her dog will be hurt.
The dog is currently being held at the Potter's League Animal Shelter in Middletown under quarantine pending a vicious dog hearing.
