NEWPORT, R.I.—Organizers of the America's Cup World Series regatta being staged in Newport this month are taking steps to lessen the environmental impact.

Composting will be available at the event site at Fort Adams State Park. No disposable bottles will be sold on site. And public transportation including water taxis and shuttles will be heavily promoted.

No waste water will be dumped into the bay, and boats may only be washed with water.

World Cup regatta organizers are partnering with the state Department of Environmental Management and the nonprofit Sailors for the Sea's "Clean Regattas" program to make the regatta environmentally friendly.

The event is taking place from June 23 to July 1.
