RI Secretary of State to provide free voters IDs
PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Rhode Islanders who need a photo ID in order to vote in next month's primary and the November election can get one for free next week.
Officials from the Secretary of State's office are traveling to North Providence and Hopkinton to issue free IDs.
A new state law requires voters to show photo identification. It has drawn complaints from civil liberties groups and others who say it creates unnecessary barriers to voting.
The Secretary of State's office will issue IDs at Wood River Health Services in Hopkinton on Monday from 10 a.m. to noon and on Wednesday at 20 McGuire Rd. in North Providence from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Voters may also get an ID from the Secretary of State's Elections Division at 148 West River St. in Providence on weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.![]()
