PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Providence and its Dominican-American mayor are getting ready to celebrate the city's Dominican heritage.
The annual event features a parade on Broad Street and a festival at Roger Williams Park. Both are taking place Sunday.
The festival celebrates the art, culture and history of the Dominican Republic and is being coordinated by the nonprofit Quisqueya in Action and the Dominican American Association of Rhode Island.
Mayor Angel Taveras (tuh-VEHR'-us), who is the son of Dominican immigrants and the city's first Hispanic mayor, says the festival highlights Providence's unique arts community.![]()
