Boston Driving Blues
Bob Margolin: I wrote Boston Driving Blues in 1992, as I was driving in Alabama but heading to Boston to record with Ronnie Earl, his band, and some Boston-oriented guests. I grew up in Brookline. The song came out in Alligator Records on my "Down In The Alley" alum in 1993. It still gets some airplay and as far as I can tell from driving in Boston recently, it's truer than ever.
Lyrics
If you ever drive in Boston, you better be strong and tough
You'll drive in nice and friendly, but you'll drive out mean and rough
If you see a yellow light in Boston, speed up and get on through
If you linger you'll get the finger, and the car behind will merge with you
Look at any car in Boston, you'll see that Boston leaves it's mark
You have to keep on driving, there ain't no place to park
Cut right in when you're in Boston, if you wanna go you gotta try
Make your own break or you'll just sit there, you'll run out of gas and then starve and die
I learned to drive in Boston, but now the South is home you see
Down there they think I'm crazy, but I don't care, they can't catch me
