MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — The lights are coming back on after high winds and rain caused thousands of power outages in Vermont.

By Wednesday morning, the outage map on Green Mountain Power’s website showed just 42 customers in 13 towns still without power. The number of outages grew and fell throughout Tuesday afternoon and evening, with about 21,000 homes and business losing power at some point.

Parts of Chittenden County were especially hard hit, including South Burlington, which had more than 6,000 outages.end of story marker
