BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) — A Vermont man who pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and selling heroin to a woman who died of an overdose had served time in prison for his role in the fatal overdose of his girlfriend a decade ago.
Thirty-year-old Chris Akey of Brattleboro pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges resulting in the death of Lisa Johnson in September.
An affidavit says Johnson’s boyfriend arranged to sell prescription drugs to a man he knew only as Chris. When Chris arrived, he also was carrying heroin. The affidavit said the pills were traded for the heroin and Johnson took the heroin.
In December 2002, Akey’s girlfriend, 16-year-old Heather Allamby, died of a methadone overdose in his home. Akey pleaded guilty to manslaughter and went to prison. His parole ended earlier this year.
