MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — Vermont’s federal prosecutor’s office has collected more than $3.8 million in fiscal year 2012 related to criminal and civil actions.
Most of the collections came from civil actions, which amounted to $3.1 million.
The office said Friday that it also collected $4.8 million in criminal and civil forfeitures for a total recovery of $8.7 million.
Around the country, the U.S. attorneys’ offices collected a total of $13.1 billion in criminal civil actions, more than doubling the amount collected the year before.
The office of the U.S. attorney for Vermont said criminal fines and felony assessments are paid to the department’s Crime Victims’ Fund, which distributes the funds to state victim compensation and victim assistance programs.
